The 1/13/15 W3HAC Net was held on the K3VOA 70cm Repeater (448.575-, no PL) due to antenna problems with the K3VOA 2-Meter repeater. Surprisingly, all three checkins were made from HT radios and the signal was quite clear. KC3CIF’s signal was generally better that that heard on the VHF repeater.

Topics discussed including travel plans, the weather and the tragedy in the Washington Metro at L’Enfant Plaza. KC3CIF commented that the disaster was very similar to an emergency exercise that she recently participated in, and that for radios to be of any use, there would have to be a preexisting plan for coordination of frequency and roles for emergency service. KC9WER mentioned that CERT will be conducting exercises with ham radio in 2015 and will test the K3VOA and CCARRS repeaters from the Metro stations to determine if HTs would be of any use in an emergency. KC3CVN suggested that the W3HAC club could at the very least agree upon a frequency to monitor in case of a disaster.
Thanks to all that checked in for being flexible and switching to the UHF repeater. Thanks to K3VOA for the use of their equipment.
