Measuring SWR with RTL Dongle Ethan Waldo KF5UFH – July 8th @ 7:30pm

Posted by on July 5, 2015

In lieu of a speaker this week, we’re going to keep it short so people can have more time to chat and hang out.

Ethan Waldo KF5UFH will be demonstrating Standing Wave Ratio (SWR) measurement using a cheap RTL SDR dongle, directional coupler, and noise generator as outlined in this article.

Antennas can be measured using the full spectrum of the RTL dongle, 24Mhz – 1766Mhz, so everyone is invited to bring any antenna (within reason) to get it measured for SWR in that range.  You might be surprised just how well your antenna performs for the bands you intend to use it for as well as what bands you didn’t know it might be good for.

We won’t be measuring filters per se, but there is nothing preventing us from doing that with the right connectors available.
