- Name: Darrell Johnson
- Call Sign: KC3FZT (General)
- Tell us more: I’ve been living in Washington, D.C. since around 1980, having moved from Miami, Fl (I went to school at Univ. of Miami). Originally raised in Richmond, VA. I teach in DC Public schools, but my passion is as a professional musician. I’ve had the pleasure of performing with some notable people over the years and I still perform regularly in the D.C. metropolitan area with an agency band called “Highway Star”. I also gig as a solo pianist/vocalist at supper clubs and private events, and as a musical “gun for hire” (sax, percussion, keyboards) for other bands as well as in the studio. I’m also a music producer. For more info, please visit my website (darrell-johnson.com).
- Why Ham Radio?: I’ve always had a quiet interest in the hobby but never allowed myself to take it forward. In recent years however, with the advent of homeland security concerns (especially in D.C., ground zero) I felt it was worth taking the plunge and learning more. I hope to be involved in emergency service work if, when, and where needed, through ARES and RACES.
- Other Interests: I’m an avid tennis player and love biking, hiking and camping. Am also into R/C stuff.
- Anything Else: Like reading books on ancient history and how we got to where we are today.
